Who is Christ?

To know who Christ is you must first know who Jesus is. Fundamentally, Jesus is the image of the invisible God (Col 1:15). John 4.24 tells us that God is a spirit and Luke 24:39 states that a spirit has no flesh or bone. So how does an invisible God manifest himself to an unbelieving world? He took on the form of a man by becoming the person Jesus Christ, still 100% God but also 100% man. As a man Jesus felt pain, suffering, and persecution just like we do now. One question often asked is “why would God come to us as a man and suffer on this Earth?” This is answered in John 3:16-17. John 3:16-17

God so loved the world that He gave his only begotten Son so that whoever believes in him will not perish but have eternal life. For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him.

Love was the motivating factor behind God’s plan for Jesus’ life. His mission was determined from the foundation of time – He was to save us from our sins with one sacrifice for all time (Rev 13.8). God did not send someone else to save the world, instead He came himself. In the form of a man, Jesus like all men had a birthday and there was a time in history in which he did not exist in the flesh at all. However the spirit of God is eternal, without beginning or end. Man is not eternal because we all must die. Jesus has a beginning and the human-side of Jesus died at the cross as a sacrifice for all of our sins. Since Jesus was 100% man and 100% God, when the human-side died on the cross at Calvary all that was left was 100% God. This 100% God-side manifested himself as the risen Christ.

John 15:13 Greater love has no one than this that someone lays down his life for his friends.

Jesus was always God’s son, which means he has always had access to everything God has yet he chose to live a human life on this earth so that when we pray to him he can understand. What better way to understand a person than to walk in their shoes for a day? Jesus walked in our shoes for 33 years, so He understands the problems we face.

He understands that it hurts to lose a loved one. John 11:1-36

So the sisters sent word to Jesus, "Lord, the one you love is sick."… On his arrival, Jesus found that Lazarus had already been in the tomb for four days…Jesus wept. Then the Jews said, "See how he loved him!"

He understands the feeling of lack and poverty. John 6:5-9

When Jesus looked up and saw a great crowd coming toward him, he said to Philip, "Where shall we buy bread for these people to eat?" Philip answered him, "Eight months' wages would not buy enough bread for each one to have a bite!" Here is a boy with five small barley loaves and two small fish, but how far will they go among so many?"

He understands what it feels like to have pain in your body. Luke 22:63

The men who were guarding Jesus began mocking and beating him. Isaiah 53:5 But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed.

He understands what it feels like to be judged wrongfully by others. Isaiah 53:3

He is despised and rejected of men; a man of sorrows, and acquainted with grief: and we hid as it were our faces from him; he was despised, and we esteemed him not.

He understands because he lived a human life so that our prayer would touch his heart so deeply that he would be compelled to spend day and night at the right hand of God the Father petitioning on our behalf.

When you accept Jesus as your Lord and Savior, what you are saying is not that you are now a perfect person. Every body sitting in every church pew has sinned at some point in their life, but those who believe in Jesus have accepted the sacrifice he made on the cross. His human-ness died a painful shameful death so that you don’t have too. Everything you have ever done: lie, steal, cheat, abortion, drugs, homosexuality, rape, murder or _______ (you fill in whatever comes to mind as the worse thing you’ve ever done); whatever it is Jesus died so that you don’t have to be punished eternally for it. You don’t have to continue to feel burdened and ashamed by your sin. Jesus wants to lift that burden from your shoulders so that you can have peace.

1Peter5:7 Give all your worries and cares to God, for He cares about what happens to you.

Now as Christ, he calls you to accept the sacrifice he made for you. Christ is the living 100% God-side of Jesus that now sits in Heaven as King of all kings and Lord of all lords. He has all power in His hands and wants to touch every area of your life. He wants to heal your body, restore emotional wellbeing, release your from financial burdens, and improve the quality of your time on this earth.

John 10:10 I came so they can have real and eternal life, more and better life than they ever dreamed of. (From The Message Bible)

Who is Christ to you? Have you accepted Jesus Christ as your Lord and Savior? Ask yourself this one question: “If I died tonight what will happen to me?” If this question causes you anxiety and fear then you have not accepted Jesus Christ into your heart.

Revelations 3:20 Look! Here I stand at the door and knock. If you hear me calling and open the door, I will come in, and we will share a meal as friends.

Jesus Christ wants to be able to help you, but do you know how difficult it is to help someone who won’t let you in the door! If you desire His help you must open the door of your heart and believe.

Hebrew 11:6 It's impossible to please God apart from faith. And why? Because anyone who wants to approach God must believe both that he exists and that he cares enough to respond to those who seek him.

Why not start reaching out to Him today by saying this simple prayer:

Lord, I need you. I believe that you are and that you desire to help me. From today I turn away from my sins and I give them to you Jesus. Thank you for loving me so much that you would take my place. Thank you for saving me.

If you prayed this prayer and meant it from your heart, you are now under the care and comfort of Jesus Christ. Please write us and let us know that you have accepted Jesus Christ, so that we can pray for you and send additional information/encouragement.
